What to Prepare Before Working with a Website Designer

How to Prepare for Your Web Design Project: Essential Tips for a Smooth Process

Ready to have your website professionally designed?

Whether you're creating a new online presence or revamping an existing one, preparation is key to ensuring the process is smooth, stress-free, and, most importantly, aligned with your vision.

As a web designer, I’ve seen firsthand how proper preparation can streamline the process and help us bring your dream website to life efficiently. To make the most out of your project, here’s a checklist of essentials to prepare before we get started:

1. Your Branding Basics

Your logo, color palette, and font choices set the tone for your entire website. If you already have these assets, make sure they’re organized and ready to share. If you don’t, don’t worry—we can help you with branding as part of your project.

2. High-Quality Brand Photos

Visuals speak volumes about your brand. Having professional photos that capture your style, personality, and vibe is a game-changer. Don’t have brand photos yet? I highly recommend scheduling a photoshoot before starting your website design.

3. An Outline of Your Website Copy

Even a simple outline of your website content can be a huge help. Think about the key sections you’ll need (e.g., Home, About, Services, Contact) and jot down bullet points or ideas for each. Not sure where to start? I can help refine your content or even create it for you from your notes.

4. Links to Your Social Media Accounts

Your website is often the hub of your online presence, so make sure to provide all your social media links. This will ensure seamless connections between platforms and help drive engagement.

5. Inspiration from Sites You Love

Have you come across websites that make you say, “I love this”? Gather a list of links to share with me! It’s a great way to convey your style preferences, functionality ideas, and overall vision for your site.

6. Access to Accounts and Hosting Info

To get your site up and running, I’ll need admin access to key accounts, such as:

  • Your Kajabi account (if applicable)

  • Canva (if we’re using it for graphics)

  • Your domain hosting platform (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap)

If you’re connecting a brand-new domain, make sure you have your URL hosting details handy.

Why Preparation Matters

Taking the time to gather these essentials ensures we can hit the ground running. A clear vision, along with the right tools and access, allows us to focus on creating a stunning and functional website tailored to your brand.

When we’re both prepared, the design process becomes a collaborative and exciting experience—one that brings your ideas to life while saving time and reducing stress.
